Did you know that there is a very active Landcare group on the Mornington Peninsula - and they run some fantastic talks and activity days?

The Mornington Peninsula Landcare Network (MPLN) represents the 11 Landcare groups on the Mornington Peninsula.

Here is a quick run down of some of their 2021 events - be sure to check their website for the latest details!

All Activities: meet at 9.45am for 10am start and finish at 12 noon (unless otherwise mentioned). BYO drink, picnic lunch and chair as an option for after each activity.

  • Sunday, 10 January: Main Creek Landcare Stall at Flinders General Store
  • Sunday, 14 February: “What is Climate Change and What an we do about it?”, Dr Greg Holland AND “Myth Busting Fire Management and Bushfire Risk”, Dr Jeremy Little (Bushfire Management Officer, Natural Systems Team, Mornington Peninsula Shire. Main Ridge Hall.
  • Friday, 26 February: 9am – 11am, “Establishing Native Grasslands”, walk & talk & working bee with Friends of Flinders Coastline – meeting place to be confirmed.
  • Sunday, 14 March: “Revegetating Wetlands”, walk and talk at ‘Lakehouse Farm’, 1776 Mornington-Flinders Road, Main Ridge.
  • Sunday, 11 April: AGM with “Bandicoots: Coming or Going?”, Dr Amanda Jane Breidahl. Main Ridge Hall.
  • Wednesday, 21 April: “Meet your Ranger and explore Greens Bush”, with Kim Cott, Parks Victoria, Meet at Baldrys Crossing.
  • Sunday, 9 May: “Re-vegetating Pastureland”, walk and talk plus planting at ‘Boonoorong’, 25 Eastern Grey Rise, Flinders.
  • Friday, 21 May: 9am – 11am, Landcare joins with Greens Bush Association for a working bee. Venue to be confirmed.
  • Sunday, 13 June: Planting Working Bee – details to follow.
  • Sunday, 11 July: Planting Working Bee – details to follow.
  • Sunday, 22 August: “Everything you didn’t know about Microbats (Microchiroptera)”, Dr Lindy Lumsden, Arthur Rylah Institute. Main Ridge Hall.
  • Sunday, 12 September: “Karamu, Karamu, Karamu”, Walk and talk to see firsthand the devastating effects of Karamu infestations, and be inspired by a community’s commitment to removing it. Learn how to identify and remove Karamu and restore bushland habitat. Put it into practice with some hand-weeding along the way! ‘Elanora’, 204 Pt Leo Road, Red Hill
  • Sunday, 24 October: “Wild Flowers in Green’s Bush”, walk with Ranger, Kim Cott. Meet at the Green’s Road carpark at the National Park end of Green’s Road.
  • Sunday, 14 November: “Revegetating and Repairing Bushland and Creating Biolinks”, property walk and talk, Valley View Lane, Main Ridge. Further details to follow.
  • Sunday, 12th December: “Wholistic Ecosystem Repair” and Christmas Break up. ‘Carranya’, 356 Baldrys Road, Main Ridge.
